Advocacy shaped by lived experience
Baltic Street recognizes that robust support and comprehensive information are vital in the recovery journey. We believe that being genuinely seen and heard can ignite healing. Our work reaches across New York City’s five boroughs and is led alongside peer advocates who bring lived experience in mental health and substance use.
Support across everyday systems
The path to recovery can include financial and housing challenges. Peer advocates help people navigate Social Security, Medicaid, public assistance and food assistance applications. They also support employment and education goals and understand the intersection of psychiatric and substance use challenges.
Groups, workshops and individual support
Wellness and recovery groups create space for connection and mutual support. Online groups, workshops and one-on-one meetings offer additional ways to participate across physical distance. In-person services are offered as public safety conditions allow.
Language access
Baltic Street’s staff speaks many languages and works to secure translators when needed so that language does not become a barrier to support.
Brooklyn Peer Advocacy Center
The Brooklyn Peer Advocacy Center includes a Self-Help Program and Advocacy for Older Adults. Its advocacy work includes support related to co-occurring disorders and rural diagnoses.
